Classifying Chinese polyphonic characters

A polyphonic character is a type of character that has more than two pronunciations. In modern Chinese, the polyphone is about one tenth of all Chinese characters, and the modern Chinese dictionary contains about 982 polyphones. 1. Different parts of speech, different meanings, different pronunciation. Pronunciation can distinguish the part of speech and meaning. E.g: 长 cháng (adj.) 很长 长远 长久 zhǎng (v.) 生长 成长 长知识 降 jiàng (v.) 下降 降雨(降:下落之意) xiáng (v.) 投降 降龙伏虎 In the first two words, above, the first represents different parts of speech, and the pronunciation for each is different; the second one represents the same parts of speech but has different meanings, so the pronunciation is also different. In more than 900 polyphonic words, there are 500 of this type of polyphone. To master this type means to master most of the polyphonic words. How long does it take to learn Chinese? The answer is, “It really depends.” Some people take a few years to gain fluency in Chinese; some spend their whole lifetime to learn Chinese . But as long as you devote enough effort to it, I believe you can become fluent in Chinese like a native speaker. Judging from among the students I have taught – with a range of ages and nationalities – normally it takes a native English speaker 3 to 7 years’ study to fluently conduct a typical conversation in Mandarin with a Chinese person. One of my students took an Chinese intensive course in China , 4 hours a day and 5 days a week. A year later he was able to communicate with us totally in Chinese. He can speak his opinion without hesitation, but for some deep topics like political news it is still difficult for him. Proper pronunciation is key in language learning. So, today, we focus on some common challenges faced by Korean learners of Mandarin and offer some solutions. 1.Consonants A). The two sounds "p" and "f" are confusing, such as "eat" (chī fàn) read as (chī pàn), "fat" (fā pàng) read as (pā pàng) or (fā fàng) and so on. B). "Z, c, s" "and zh ch sh" are easily confused, such as "sleep" (shuì jiào) read as (suì jiào), passport "(hù zhào) is read as (hù zào), and get up (qǐ chuáng) is read as (qǐ cuáng). C).
